History

Tchaikovsky presumably wrote his manual on commission. The text of the manual was sent to Petr Jurgenson in sections. According to Nikolai Kašhkin's memoirs, the Guide was based on one of Tchaikovsky's lectures at the Moscow Conservatory, written down by one of his students [1] .
