TH 120 By the River, By the BridgeВозле речки, возле мостаPiece on the theme of the folk-song (1862).
HistoryComposed in the autumn of 1862 in Saint Petersburg, during Tchaikovsky’s years as a student at the Saint Petersburg Conservatory. Herman Laroche recalled that: "At one of the Musical Society concerts around this time, we became acquainted with Konstantin Liadov’s choral fantasia on the theme "By the river, by the bridge"'. Inspired by this, Petr Il’ich and dedicated to me a humorous piano piece on the same theme, all contained on a single page" [1]. There are no other references to his work among surviving documents, and the piece remains unknown. From: Музыкальное наследие Чайковского (1958),
