History
The romance was probably composed around the time of Tchaikovsky’s visit
to Italy with the singing teacher Luigi Piccoli.
The romance appeared in print for the first time in an undated edition by
Iurii Leibrok in Saint Petersburg. This edition was first discovered in 1926
in the archives of the firm Petr
Jurgenson in Moscow. The provenance of the verses has not been established.
In 1940 the romance was printed in the composer's collected works [1] from the score
published in the magazine Musée musicale by Iurii Leibrock.
