While informed debate is always welcome (and indeed, encouraged) in this
Forum, the acrimonious nature of some recent discussions is unwelcome, as
well as being somewhat tedious for the majority of readers. I would
respectfully suggest that the time has come to bring such discussions to a
close.
May I also draw everyone's attention to the notice in the right-hand
panel of every Forum page which says that "a selection" of comments and
questions will be published. Please do not be disappointed if a particular
contribution is not selected for publication, as our aim is to choose items
likely to be of interest to a wider audience.
The editors' choices will be final, and no correspondence will be entered
into.
