But what is the most beautiful?

What do you think of this passage in the old and glorious biography of Rotislav Hofmann?  (Hofmann, Michel-Rotislav, Tchaikovsky, Edition du Seuil, Paris, 1959)

(I quote from the book copied the original French, page 93)

"La 'Quatrième', la 'Cinquième' et la 'Sixième Symphonies' reprèsent dans son oeuvre le 'cycle du fatum', et font l'historique de la lutte de l'homme contre son destin. Partie ed deux manches et una belle. Tchaikovski feint de n'avoir perdu que la belle; en réalité il a perdu plus surement encore le deux manches, car la 'Quatrième' et la 'Cinquième Symphonies' soint ecore plus poignantes que la 'Pathètique', parce que moins extérieures, moins spectaculaires..."
