As you may be aware, this coming Wednesday, 6th November, will see the
120th anniversary of Tchaikovsky's untimely death, at the age of 53.
(For anyone interested the precise moment will be
around 00.35 hours GMT, so be sure to start playing your recordings of the
Pathétique around ten to midnight!)
For some months now, quietly behind the scenes, work has been going on
to improve and expand the Tchaikovsky Research website,
and this coming anniversary seems an appropriate time to launch the new
service. If all goes to plan you will see a fresh look to the website, and
a brand new forum, which will no longer depend on a moderator being
available to manually copy and paste messages from emails into web pages
(occasionally with unexpected results!). The existing forum pages will be
archived and remain accessible, but all future postings will have to be
made on the new forum once it's up and running.
I'd like to take this opportunity to thank all the contributors —
expert and amateur — who have generously given up their free time in order
to contribute to the Tchaikovsky Researh project since its launch in
February 2006, as well as all the 100,000 or so readers who visit
our pages every month.
And this week in paritcular let's remember the great man himself, Pyotr
Ilyich Tchaikovsky, whose music continues to captivate and enthrall new
generations, even 120 years after his passing.
