| Поздравляю тебя со вступлением в лоно православной греко-католической
веры. Вчера я получил твоё письмо и посылочку. Вот что, голубчик: в Москву за тобой приехать я не могу,
по той причине, что должен послезавтра отправиться прямо отсюда через Вену в Женеву. Мне нужно помочь
сестре, которая теперь приезжает из Женевы со всем семейством
в Россию. Я хочу помочь ей устроить этот выезд, т. е. проводить её до Вены, а оттуда она
уже поедет домой с мужем,
который выедет ей навстречу. Потом я поеду во Францию, в Виши, пить воды. Затем
после леченья я бы очень хотел съехаться с тобой где-нибудь в Германии
или в Швейцарии. Не можешь ли ты устроить дело таким образом: после Виши я бы поехал в Интерлакен и там
бы ожидал тебя; мы могли бы вместе совершить какую-нибудь экскурсию
по Berner Oberland
и потом уж отправиться в Байрейт.

I congratulate you on your being admitted into the fold
of the Orthodox Greek Catholic Church [1]. Yesterday I received your
letter and parcel. The only thing, dear fellow, is that I can't come to Moscow to fetch you, because the
day after tomorrow I have to set off and, via Vienna, head straight for Geneva. I have to help my
sister, who is now bringing her whole family back to Russia from Geneva [2]. I want
to help her to organize this journey, that is accompany her as far as Vienna, from where she can
then travel home with her husband,
who is coming to meet her. After that I shall myself travel to France
and take the waters at Vichy.
After my cure I should very much like to meet you in Germany or Switzerland.
Could you not arrange things as follows: after Vichy I could come to Interlaken and wait
for you there; we could then go on a hike together in the Bernese Oberland [the highlands
in the canton of Berne] and after
that head for Bayreuth.

сделать, или вместо того не хочешь ли назначить другое rendez-vous?

Please send me a detailed reply saying whether you can
do this, or if instead you would like to fix another rendezvous.
My cure will be over by 20 July (our style)
and afterwards I am entirely at your service. How I should like to make
this trip with you! I expect you to reply immediately. Address your letter

Notes:
- Upon his conversion to the Russian Orthodox faith Karl Albrecht received the
Christian name Konstantin. That is why Tchaikovsky opens this letter with
the affectionate "Kostia", but afterwards (except on formal occasions) he
would continue to call his friend by the equally affectionate, though jesting
diminutive "Karlusha" [back]

had travelled to Switzerland with her whole family earlier that year in
order to look for a suitable boarding school for her eldest daughters [back]
