Lauro RossiItalian composer, conductor and music teacher (b. 19 February 1810 in Macerata; d. 5 May 1885 in Cremona). After studying at the Naples Conservatory under Niccolò Zingarelli (1752–1837), Rossi made his conducting debuts in Rome and Milan in 1832. He directed the Italian Opera company during their tour of Mexico (1835–39), Havana (1839–42) and New Orleans (1842–43). In 1850 he returned to Italy to become director of the Milan Conservatory, before accepting a similar position at the Collegia di Musica in Naples (1870–78).
