Aleksandra TchaikovskaiaMother of the composer (b. 30 July/11 August 1812 in Saint Petersburg; d. 13/25 June 1854 in Saint Petersburg), born Aleksandra Andreevna Assier (Александра Андреевна Ассиер, Alexandra Andreyevna Assier); known after her marriage as Aleksandra Andreevna Tchaikovskaia (Александра Андреевна Чайковская, Aleksandra Andreevna Čajkovskaja, Alexandra Andreyevna Tchaikovskaya). Alexandra was the fifth child of Andrei Assier and his wife Ekaterina, and she was educated at the Patriotic Institute in Moscow from the age of four. On 1/13 October 1833 she married Il'ia Tchaikovsky (1795–1880), and the couple had seven children: Ekaterina (d. in infancy); Nikolai (1838–1911); Petr (1840–1893), the composer; Aleksandra (1841–1891); Ippolit (1843–1927); Anatolii (1850–1915); and Modest (1850–1916) : Aleksandra Tchaikovskaia died of cholera on 13/25 June 1854, and was buried at Smolenskoe Cemetery in Saint Petersburg.
