Khvalynsk
Khvalynsk (Хвалынск, Hvalynsk) is a Russian city on the Volga river, and is the administrative centre of the Khvalynsk district (Хвалынский район) in Saratov oblast (Саратовская область). During Tchaikovsky's lifetime the city was the centre of the Khvalynsk district (Хвалынский уезд) in the Saratov province (Саратовская губерния) of the Russian Empire.
Tchaikovsky passed through Khvalynsk on 23 May/4 June 1887, during his steamship journey down the Volga river.
