Magdeburg

Magdeburg is the capital of the state of Saxony-Anhalt (Sachsen-Anhalt), Germany. During Tchaikovsky's lifetime it was part of the province of Saxony (Sachsen) of the Kingdom of Prussia, becoming part of the German Empire from 1871.

Tchaikovsky visited Magdeburg from 12/24 January–13/25 January 1888, during his concert tour of Germany. "Magdeburg turned out to be a wonderful, even splendid city" [1].
