Vilnius (Vil'na)

Vilnius is the capital city and largest municipal district in Lithuania, in the county of Vilnius (Vilniaus apskritis). During Tchaikovsky's lifetime it was known as Vil'na (Вильна) or Vil'no (Вильно) and was the capital of the Vil'na district (Виленский уезд) and Vil'na province (Виленская губерния) of the Russian Empire.

Tchaikovsky stopped briefly at Vil'na on 15/27 February 1881, while travelling from Saint Petersburg to Vienna, in order to send a telegram to Nadezhda von Meck.
